Learn how to QUICKLY cleanse Tarot or oracle cards with this crystal. Try this quick, no-mess and smoke-free way to cleanse your deck of cards in seconds…

Why Cleansing Your Cards Is Important

I always like to cleanse my Tarot and oracle cards before I use them. This means that the deck is clear of the energy from previous readings or situations. After all, we often work with cards when we are facing challenges or concerns.

I want to make sure that the energy from the last time I used it or previous questions does not interfere with my current reading or daily draw. I find this helps bring clarity to my readings.

Cleansing Tarot & Oracle Cards In A Hurry

There are a lot of ways you can cleanse your cards but some require more time than others. Using incense smoke is popular but not everyone likes it or can use it. Sound methods might not always be appropriate, especially if you work with cards while others are asleep.

That’s why I wanted to share this method I developed that uses a crystal to clear your deck. You may have heard similar methods but they usually require time to leave the deck on the crystal. This method does not take long at all.

What You Will Need

You will need a Selenite (AKA Satin Spar) wand for this if you don’t already have one. It does not matter what type of Selenite wand you use, I’m uses a carved and polished one. The wand does not need to be anything big, four or five inches is all you need.

How To Cleanse Tarot or Oracle Cards With Selenite

This technique was shared as part of my recent article about crystals for oracle and tarot card readings in Soul & Spirit Magazine. Please see my photos below for a guide, if needed. I will be sharing a video on social media too as well.

  1. Hold your deck by the base in your non-dominant hand while holding your selenite wand in your other hand.
  2. Before you begin, focus on your crystal and your intention to cleanse your deck.
  3. Start with the wand pointing downwards, over the middle of the front of the deck. In a clockwise direction, closely circle the side, back and return to the front again. Do this three times in total.
  4. Now, hold your deck from the side. Point your wand horizontally over the centre of the front of the deck. Circle the cards with your wand, clockwise over the top, down the back and up again, three times.
Wand pointing down infront of the deck. Move around to the left
Step 3
Wand horizontal in front of the deck. Move over the top and around
Step 4

Note: I personally like to cleanse all crystals including Selenite/Satin Spar. So, later on, I will give the crystal a cleanse too or set it aside for cleansing at a later date when I have more time.

Hopefully, this tip is helpful and you will give it a try. I would love to hear from you in the comments below (PLEASE keep any questions you have concise and stick to this blog post topic if you want a response).

Hi Ethan …great advice ! I have heard that selenite never needs cleasing …is this true? I usually only put them out in a full or new moon but don’t cleanse before each use .

    Hi Ethan,

I appreciate that you are recommending that the selenite Crystal be cleansed after using it to clear the energy of one’s oracle or tarot deck however I thought since this is what I have read and that is that selenite is self cleansing and does not need to be cleansed, I have also heard that blue kyanite is self cleansing despite which I do still cleanse my blue kyanite however I only every cleanse my selenite when it first arrives in my home and what for selenite cleansing bars, bowls and plates that are designed to sit your jewellery or crystals in for cleansing should these pieces of selenite also be cleansed? I realise that I have gone off topic to some extent, would I be right in saying that it is down to personal choice when cleansing selenite given that most articles consider it to be self cleansing?

Do you think this would work just specifically with the Selinite crystal in a wand shape or would other forms of the selenite do ok? I don’t have a wand but do have large palm sized polished ones and also a athame made of it.

Yes, you could use other forms. As long as they have more surface area than a tumbled stone. Its just easier with these longer shapes and I am trying to make this a quick technique so crystal wands are ideal.

Thank you so much! I’m definitely going to use this method. Do you recommend this method for cleansing a brand new deck never used or just for a quick cleanse in between uses? I’m thinking it’s good for both but would like your thoughts. By the way, I purchased several oracle decks that you recommended in your blog post earlier and I love them all! Thanks Ethan!

Glad you liked your oracle cards. I think Selenite is a powerful cleanser, so it absolutely could be used for a new deck. As always with cleansing through, use the method you prefer and feel is right for you.
