Who I am
My website address is https://www.ethanlazzerini.com. This is the official website and blog of the author Ethan Lazzerini, who lives in the UK and it runs on the WordPress self-hosted platform. By visiting or using this website, you agree to the terms, policies and conditions set forth below. These terms can be updated at any time, so if you visit often please review them periodically to make sure you are still happy with them. Updated terms take effect immediately.
Privacy Policy:
What personal data we collect and why we collect it
Security
My website has a SSL Certificate and is now on the more secure https address. If you look in your browser you will see the green locked padlock symbol before the web address to show this. All data you enter into my site is therefore processed with the secure SSL Certificate as long as you enter the https address correctly.
Newsletter Subscriptions
If you sign up for my free Crystal Newsletter, Updates and free Ebook ‘Discover Your Guardian Stone’, you will be asked for your email address. This is only used for my newsletter subscription and email updates. I will not share or sell this information to anyone. I have used a double opt-in subscription since I started my Newsletter in 2015. This means you get an email to get you to confirm that you did subscribe to it yourself. You will need to click the link to authenticate this and confirm that you want to subscribe to my Newsletter and receive emails from me. As of May 21st 2018 I am using a new GDPR friendly sign-up form from MailChimp for greater clarity.
Once on my mailing list you will get a bi-monthly Newsletter, email updates containing news, blog posts, tips, special offers, free gifts, book or course related promotions which includes or may be classified as marketing. By subscribing, you are agreeing that you are happy for me to send these emails.
You are free to unsubscribe at any time from my Newsletters and emails as every email contains a link to unsubscribe at the bottom.
I use MailChimp to collect and store the contact details and send the Newsletters and email updates myself. Please read Mailchimps Privacy Policy and Terms of Use. If you unsubscribe and wish to delete all records of your previous subscription contact Mailchimp or send me an email so we can remove them.
If you sign up for the Newsletter you will also be asked for a first name. You do not have to use your real name but it will be used in the ‘To’ field of any emails sent to you. This information like your email address is private and will not be sold or shared. You can update your contact name and email address at any time through the update link at the bottom of all my emails.
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Ethan Lazzerini will never add your email address to his Newsletter subscription without your permission. Nor will he sell or share your email address.
Contact forms
If you use the Contact form to send me an email, I will not use your email address for anything other than responding to you. Your email address is private and I will not sell or share it with anyone. Further information provided by Jetpack is below:
Data Used: If Akismet is enabled on the site, the contact form submission data — IP address, user agent, name, email address, website, and message — is submitted to the Akismet service (also owned by Automattic) for the sole purpose of spam checking. The actual submission data is stored in the database of the site on which it was submitted and is emailed directly to the owner of the form (i.e. the site author who published the page on which the contact form resides). This email will include the submitter’s IP address, timestamp, name, email address, website, and message.
Data Synced (?): Post and post meta data associated with a user’s contact form submission. If Akismet is enabled on the site, the IP address and user agent originally submitted with the comment are synced, as well, as they are stored in post meta.
Cookies
If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Analytics
WordPress and third-party widgets/plugins and software used to operate this website may use information about visitors for analytics purposes. This could include your location, pages viewed, links clicked, downloaded files, pages or posts shared, how you came to this site and search terms for example. These are just website stats and are used anonymously. This is used to better understand my visitors, see what articles are popular and improve the content I create for you.
My web host is 123-reg.co.uk and they have website analytics built into their hosting service for all members which are anonymously gathered. I use Cresta Social Share Counter, so if you click the sharing buttons on my blog posts then it records the number of shares to each social media site anonymously. I use Jetpack for WordPress for my website analytics.
Further information from Jetpack is provided here:

How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
Please see the Newsletter Subscription policies at the top of this page for further details.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes. Data removal can only be done if it complies with UK law
Compliance With Laws
I may collect, use, retain, and share your information if I have a good faith belief that it is reasonably necessary to: (a) respond to legal process or to government requests; (b) enforce my agreements, terms and policies; (c) prevent, investigate, and address fraud and other illegal activity, security, or technical issues; or (d) protect the rights, property, and safety of my visitors, newsletter subscribers or others.
Where we send your data
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service. I use Akismet anti-spam software to keep my site spam free.
