2020 astrology and numerology – what happened and what exactly is going on? Here’s my guide to the energy, themes and lessons of 2020. Plus what should you expect as we move forward into the last part of the year and into 2021?
Conducting A Postmortum on 2020
I don’t think many people expected this year to go the way it has, including me. Many of us had plans and goals that just did not happen or needed to be revised. I heard someone refer to 2020 as a “void year” but is that what it is and what caused all this? Were there any signs this would happen? Did astrologers not see this coming?
The Signs Were There…
I’ll be honest, I get a few strange emails and messages. Right at the start of the year, someone warned me that something huge was about to happen to the world. They asked if I could feel it building up? The truth was I didn’t, I was too busy planning my year and looking for a new house. I was feeling really motivated and things were moving really fast for me. I really didn’t want to worry about some possible global event or crisis.
I’ve heard so many predictions over the years that I subscribe more to waiting until I see clear signs of something rather than worrying. Looking back I had heard 2020 mentioned along with a couple of other years after 2012 as years of global shifts.
But there was more… I had seen a post on social media which pointed out that the last time the planets had aligned in this formation a few big things happened (the middle ages). I looked down the list and one of the events stood out to me, it was the plague. I thought that was interesting, a little concerning but then I scrolled on by.
2020 Astrology
What exactly was this alignment and how does it relate to what is going on this year? I’m interested in astrology and use it in my life but I’m not an astrologer. I will share here what I’ve learned in a nutshell. You can always look more into it if you want to do more research. I will link to my sources at the end of this article for more detail.
I am using Western or European Astrology here as that is the one I am most familiar with. There are many different perspectives on astrology but it seems sugar-coating this has left many confused about the events of 2020. Let’s dive into it!
The Saturn & Pluto Conjuction
Saturn and Pluto came together in the sign of Capricorn on the 12th of January 2020. The last time this happened was in 1518! They have been associated with difficult turning points in world history. Pluto moved into Capricorn back in 2008, which gives you an idea of how this energy can work.
This conjunction seems to have triggered how the whole year has gone. So that you can understand the ‘astrological weather’ they created I have summarised some of the key energies and themes below for you:

Society, Laws & Rules, Authority, Caution, Patience
Pluto
Birth-Death-Rebirth, Regeneration, Pollution, Elimination, Obsession, Transformation
Saturn
Limitation, Control, Structure, Boundaries, Karma, Lessons, Time, Fear, Challenges, Responsibility
Saturn & Pluto In Capricorn
Saturn in the sign of Capricorn is all about being more cautious and slowing down. It is a rigid energy but encourages longterm planning. Pluto is the slowest moving planet in astrology. When it enters Capricorn it can transform our current society. Pluto exposes things which have been ignored, repressed or left unhealed.
Any conjunction of Pluto and Saturn is considered to be a difficult time. Making progress will be much harder than normal. It can feel like hitting a brick wall, bringing on feelings of frustration. The positive is that it can give you a chance to have a break from being busy and doing all the time.
The Lunar Eclipse In Cancer
On the 10th of January, two days before the exact conjunction of Saturn and Pluto there was an eclipse during the Full Moon in Cancer. Eclipses can bring up repressed energy and personal or collective karma that needs resolving. They also have an influence of up to six months, taking us to July.
A Full Moon in Cancer brings an urgent focus on the home environment. Mercury was also conjunct with the Sun during this eclipse. This made it also influence travel and communication. This eclipse further compounded the energy of the Saturn and Pluto conjunction.
The New Moon in Aquarius
On the 24th of January, we had a New Moon in Aquarius. This moon heralds the Chinese New Year. New Moons mark the end of a cycle and the beginning of a new one. Aquarius is focused on humanity and revolution. This New Moon can bring change, chaos, advances in technology and how we connect with others.
The Moon also formed a square to the planet Uranus. This influenced this New Moon to bring uncertainty and unpredictable behaviour. It brought anxiety and unexpected change.
The Jupiter & Pluto Conjunctions
In April and June of 2020, we had more disruption caused by Jupiter and Pluto meeting. Jupiter can amplify the energy of another planet… Things escalated at these times if you look back. These two planets will form one more conjunction before the year is over. More on that later…
The Numerology of 2020
You might wonder what numerologists had to say about 2020. Perhaps you heard good things that did not seem to match what happened globally. I think the problem lies in the interpretations. Like the planets and zodiac signs, numbers can have a positive or negative side.
This Is A Four Universal Year
2020 is a 4 universal year number, this annual cycle affects everyone in a general way. Although 4 can mean good things like stability and building things it also has its challenges.
Number 4 years can mean living with limitations, delays and restrictions to your movement. More effort will be needed to reach your goals. You will have to learn patience and get organised. Determination and a positive mindset will be needed to overcome any obstacles.
Guidance For Reclaiming 2020
One of the main lessons of 2020 has been about accepting what you can’t change. We have been forced to stop, slow down and focus inward. With our plans and goals on hold, many of us need to be patient and wait until the right time comes.
This phase is sometimes called a holding pattern. It does not mean we don’t have to do anything though. Use the time you have gained to learn new skills, research and develop yourself. Don’t get sucked into fear or focusing on what you can’t do. Focus on what you can do now.
Many of us have had to revise our goals and plans. It is a good time to work on long term goals and plan ahead. What have you been avoiding or putting off? What have you talked yourself out of before? Doing things that are outside of your usual comfort zone can get things moving.
The people that are doing best or even thriving this year learned to adapt. Adaptability is the key to 2020. Swimming against the current is a waste of emotional and mental energy.
Many of us have been called to step up more or even start forging a new path. The internet is a big part of the new structures that are going to come out of this. If you have a business or want to start one make sure you have an online presence.
Now is the time to look at your life, your work and really think about what needs to be transformed, changed or released. The time is now.
The Last Part of 2020 Astrology Forcast
Before the end of 2020, there are a couple more big cosmic events that you need to be aware of. On the 12th of November, we will have the last of the three Jupiter and Pluto conjunctions. If we look back on the others, something big may happen again this month. There is also a Full Moon eclipse in Gemini on the 30th.
December also sees a New Moon eclipse in Sagittarius on the 14th. On or around the Winter Solstice, there will be a conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn in Aquarius. This looks like another pivotal time and will likely affect the beginning of 2021.
Because of Saturn, it is likely that there will still be restrictions to travel. This conjunction is squared with Uranus causing big transformation again. This conjunction marks the end of an era and our full transition into the new decade.
Make sure you have learned any lessons from the year and made positive changes to make these transits easier for you personally.

Personally, I’m very glad that current situation happened in year 2020 = 4, with the stellium of the planets Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto in the sign of Capricorn. Because, even Jupiter acts as a spreading agent around the globe, and we are talking here not just abut the pandemic, but all of the other changes we are experiencing right now, there’s a silver lining – number 4 is a number of restrictions limitations and hard work as well, and the Capricorn is a sign of restriction and responsibility, which is a big plus, in my humble opinion… Unlike the The Black Death, which was the deadliest pandemic recorded in human history, resulted in the deaths of up to 75–200 million people in Eurasia and North Africa, peaking in Europe from 1347 to 1351. Plague, the disease caused by the bacterium Yersinia pestis, was the cause; Y. pestis infection most commonly results in bubonic plague,and can cause septicaemic or pneumonic plagues. By 1351 Black Death Fades, Leaving Half of Europe Dead and killed up to a half of the population of Eurasia. The article – very concise and well written – pretty much explains everything happening right now. The November 12th prediction might have something to do with the upcoming presidential election here in the USA. Our country is in a terrible place right now. I see the 11/12 prediction as a positive one.

I agree, this has been the absolute most transformative year I’ve experianced, at least since 2008, when I moved to a new city and got a much needed divorce! This has been more of a spiritual transformation this year, as I’ve been able to connect with, and communicate easily with guides and other beings. I’ve never been able to do that before, but I had a major opening in April. For me, it’s been an exciting and expansive year and personally I can’t wait to see what the future holds. I think it’s very important for the world that we hold the vibration of unconditional love, whatever happens.
I am currently into Vedic astrology, but this article was awesome. The points were clearly stated and the connections logical. Maybe I’ll look into Western astrology again.

Unfortunately, it’s not through yet despite the change of year: you don’t need the planets or the Tarot to predict that 2021 is going to be a year of upheaval in many places. I can see a leadership change coming up for Britain, for a start…..
