Why You Don’t Need to Cleanse Each Crystal Individually
I get this question a lot, especially from people with big collections of crystals, stored crystals, multiple crystal grids or lots of display crystals around their house. Cleansing crystals individually or even in batches that you can hold is a lot of work and… really not necessary.
Mass Cleansing Methods
There are cleansing methods that are more suitable for cleansing lots of crystals at once. You could call these ‘mass cleansing methods’. The ones I recommend are sound and smoke methods. Both these cover wide areas and don’t require you to move or hold the crystals to work.
Although these two methods use tools there are lots of choice of them and different ways you can do this. Some are traditional and others are more modern. I’ll cover a few of these and their benefits below.
The Best Methods to Cleanse Many Crystals at Once
As with ALL cleansing methods, it all starts with intention. Get clear before you start cleansing.
SOUND CLEANSING (Tuning Forks, Singing Bowls, Bells)
- Sound vibrations move through and around solid objects easily.
- Ideal for large display stones, stored crystals, crystal grids or display cases.
- Very fast working with little physical effort.
SMOKE CLEANSING (Incense, Herbs, Woods or Resins)
- Smoke envelopes items and eventually fills the whole room.
- Lots of choice of forms of incense could be used.
- Choose any cleansing herbs, wood or resin you prefer.
Home Cleansing, Cleanses Everything
You may already be using the methods above to cleanse your room or your home. When you cleanse your space you cleanse EVERYTHING in it. Crystals are not expempt. That means all your crystals are being cleansed in each room that you space clear using popular methods.
How Often Should You Cleanse Your Crystal Collection?
This is why I recommend people cleanse their homes at least once a month. This way the energy of your home is refreshed (less floating around for display or stored crystals to absorb) and ALL your crystal collection is getting a regular cleanse. Otherwise, it can be hard to remember when you last cleansed which crystals.
Just in case you’re new. I recommend you cleanse crystals you carry, wear or use in healing after you used them or at the end of the day. This keeps them clear and working at theIr best. The mass cleansing or home cleanse covers everything, including any crystal grids.
Display crystals and stored crystals may not have been used but they will still absorb energy from you and your home over time.
Q. When should I cleanse my crystal collection or home?
A. This is personal and there’s no set rules. However, as I said earlier, once a month works well and it’s easier to remember when you mark it on your calendar or set a notification on your phone.
You might find it works best to do this at the start of each month or at the end. Alternatively, some people cleanse their home on the full or new moon and follow the lunar cycle. Make it work for you and your lifestyle or you wont keep the habit for long.
Q. Will mass cleansing remove my intentions, programming from my crystals or grids?
A. No, no and no. The purpose of cleansing is to remove negative, harmful or energy that no longer serves you. There is no need to reprogram, redo your intentions or reactivate your crystal grids.

Thank you for the reminder about intention Ethan as I regularly cleanse the home with a mixture of tree resins, herbs and spices but often forget to have the intention that all of the crystals will be cleared and cleansed. Great post Ethan! My crystal collection has been expanding as you know, to the point now where individual cleansing is impractical to impossible. I knew that cleansing wouldn’t clear any set intention or programming, simply because it doesn’t undo the exchange of fundamental energy that happens when we bond with our crystals, and nor does it negate any imparted request for help (in either direction). But this comes at the absolute perfect time for me, so thank you again!
And yes, I think cleansing our home space is a topic that could use some light shining on it.
