Wondering which wrist is best for wearing your crystal bracelet – left or right? Different traditions give very different answers, and the truth may surprise you. Discover how wrist choice can affect your bracelet’s energy, and why the “rules” aren’t always what they seem. Here’s how to find the placement that works best for you…
Left Wrist vs Right Wrist Meanings
You may have come across some people who say that crystal bracelets are best worn on the left wrist. Or that certain types of crystal bracelets should ONLY be worn on the left or right wrist or they won’s work…
I’m often asked this question and it’s not an easy one to answer in a short reply online. So I made this guide.
As always, this is just my perspective. It’s based on a modern crystal healing point of view, not a specific tradition. You might know me from my crystal books or YouTube channel. But before all that, I designed and made crystal healing bracelets and jewellery, since 2011. So, I have a few things to say on this…

Does It Really Matter Which Wrist?
Does it really matter which wrist you wear your crystal bracelet on? Here’s the thing. Crystal energy merges with your energy as soon as it’s within your aura. Including when you pick up any crystal, hold it, wear it anywhere, have it in your pocket or place it on your body. If you are sensitive to energy, you will have felt this effect.
The crystal is already having an effect on you and your energy field. In terms of beaded crystal bracelets, wether you are wearing one on your left or right wrist, they are in your aura and close to your physical body. So they are still working on an energetic level.

Left Vs Right Wrist Differences
Now that the most important factor here is out of the way (see above if you skimmed this), you can fine-tune the energy even more IF you want to. Not everyone does this and it’s not in any way required to benefit from crystal bracelets. Which is why I rarely focus on this.
There is a belief in the energy healing, gem therapy and crystal healing community that the left and right side of the body and your hands, work differently. This is to do with energy flow, like an electric currant. One is the more receptive side and one is the projective side.
Howerver, I think this is still too general. It’s not just about left or right. It’s more about your dominant and non-dominant hand. The hand you write with most is your dominant hand and projective energy side. The other least used hand is your receptive side.
- Non-Dominant Hand = Receiving energy, drawing in benefits
- Dominant Hand = Giving energy, projecting qualities outward
This effect is SUBTLE. It’s like fine tuning things but not essential or more important than wearing your crystal bracelet within your aura.

When to Choose the Left Wrist (If Non-Dominant Hand)
If you are right handed, then your left wrist and hand is on your non-dominant side. Often described as your receiving hand. The hand that you draw energy in. Wearing a crystal bracelet on your left wrist (or non-dominant hand) could help you absorb the stone’s properties.
When to Choose the Right Wrist (If Dominant Hand)
If you are right handed, then your right wrist and hand is on your dominant side. Sometimes described as your “giving” or projecting hand. The hand that you send energy out into the world. Wearing a crystal bracelet on your right wrist (or dominant hand) would help you put out, radiate or project the stone’s qualities.

PLEASE NOTE: If you are left handed then the opposite hand applies. Read the entry for the dominant hand and non-dominant hand and ignore the left and right references. If you are ambidextrous then either wrist will work but you could go with the hand you use more often as your projective side.
Why This Is SO Subjective
Even with this information, it can still be confusing. We all want to recieve the benefits of the crystal bracelet don’t we? That’s why many people will wear all types of crystal bracelets on their receiving or left wrist.
Some people might see wearing a crystal for self confidence like this. They want to be more confident so they wear it on their receptive side to ‘receive’ the confidence supporting energy. While others see this as something they want to project, to appear more confident for example and wear it on their projective wrist.
It’s still very personal. Some will say wear your protection crystal bracelet on the projective wrist. To put out a repelling energy to defend from bad vibes. I get it.
But I have always believed that the receptive side is more vulnerable to absorbing negative energy. It makes more sense to me to protect the receptive side and hand with the protective stone bracelet.
You might see communication a projective intention. You want to communicate with others or speak your truth more with people in your external life. In this case you could try wearing your Blue Lace Agate bracelet on your projective wrist.

Final Thoughts
There’s no ‘right’ answer or universally accepted rule here. Please do not post your crystal bracelets below and ask me to tell you which wrist to wear them on. Do what feels right and makes the most sense to you based on this article. Try it and see if you notice any difference.
Many people do not follow this wrist rule at all and still benefit from their crystals. The crystal chosen and your intention for it are still the number one and most important thing.
Are you left or right handed and do you wear your crystal bracelets based on this system? I would love to hear from you in the comments below (PLEASE keep any questions you have concise and stick to this blog post topic if you want a response).

Interesting I select my bracelets, each day, depending on what I’m drawn to, and tend to wear them on my dominant hand, which could explain why individuals have a tendency to love being in my company. I guess I could be sharing the energy with others which in turn is making them feel good, which makes me feel good.
I’ll experiment and wear them on my opposite hand and see if I can pick up on any difference over time.
Love your post. I wear my moldavite, herkimer diamond silver bracelet on my left, receptive wrist. Now I realize why. Interesting how we do things intuitively and later find out the reason “why”. Thank you Ethan.
It is interesting to think about which wrist you naturally choose
Interesting. I wear my bracelets in the left hand – non dominant – also the side of the heart. Protective crystals block energy coming in and others help me absorb the energy for however it is used.
Funny, I always wear my Ocean Jasper and Aquamarine & Fluorite bead bracelets on my left wrist, but my Gold Sheen Obsidian bracelet on mt right.
Love and Light.
Yes, it is interesting to consider how you wear them
Thank you for the great article. Interestingly, I always wear a tiger’s eye and carnelian bracelet on my left hand (non-dominant), but I often place it on my right hand. Instead of honoring my intuition, I have changed it to my left, and wear hematite and white jade on my dominant hand. Thanks to your article, I will reassess what crystals I am wearing and why.
I use a dousing method to choose what to wear and on which wrist.
Ethan, thank you for this interesting blog. I wear bracelets every day, on both wrists. I feel I need to balance left and right sides. While the initial stones and colors are selected by aesthetics, often I switch bracelets from one wrist to another or switch it out for another bracelet because something doesn’t feel quite right. Sometimes the ‘not quite right’ is about comfort — the size of the bracelet or the shape of the stone — but often I swap bracelets for less definitive reasons… that weren’t understood until now. Thank you for confirming that my accessorizing with baubles might well be sensing the energy of the stones and their best uses.
Could be. Its worth seeing if this system relates to your intuitive nudges
When I won my first two crystal bracelets at a show, I instinctively immediately put them on my non-dominant (right) hand. I have never had the slightest urge to put them on my left (dominant) hand. I never take them off so there they stay. Love all your posts and thank you so very much for taking the time to create these for us.
This is always how I’ve worn mine. I change them according to need.
Thank-you for such an interesting post. No set rule that s good just go with your gut and what you feel best for you. I personally wear mine on non dominant side which is left for me, always have felt more drawn to the darker crystals for protection and grounding. I wear black obsidian, tigers eye hematite and mookaite jasper bracelets.
This is very interesting and timely so Thank you Ethan. I have heard about the left wrist/right wrist theory but it was not explained like this just, you should wear your crystals on your left wrist period LOL. I have always had an issue with this only because I wear my watch on my left and it just seems a bit much. So, I would just add one chakra bracelet on the left wrist and whatever other gem bracelet I was feeling on the right. Good information for sure.
i wear bracelets on both wrists! i have a bunch of different ones and pick a different set based on the colors i’d like for the day, and i’ve definitely come up with my own system for wearing them. i usually wear three (sometimes four) on my dominant right wrist, two smaller-bead ones and one big-bead one; and two on my left wrist under my watch. the smaller bracelets have to frame the bigger one, and they have to be arranged in color or darkness order, with the lighter one nearer my hand and the darker one nearer my body! the same goes for the bracelets on my left wrist. in addition, i pair them with a necklace of the same or similar stone as the bracelets. i haven’t really given much thought as to whether they facilitate sending or receiving their respective energies, but i really like my system and it feels great to me!
I’m an empath, so I feel crystal energy. I am right handed and wear protective energizing and Wealth crystals on my left hand and protective, emotional healing and health related crystals on my right hand. I made a bracelet to help me be get better respect and treatment at restaurants and it works. It have a 10mm carnelian as the center stone–look into it people.
Love that Yvonne!
Hi Ethan,
Thank you for this interesting article. I have always worn my black obsidian bracelet on my left non-dominant hand. In the article you state: “Some will say wear your protection crystal bracelet on the projective wrist. To put out a repelling energy to defend from bad vibes. I get it. But I have always believed that the receptive side is more vulnerable to absorbing negative energy. It makes more sense to me to protect the receptive side and hand with the protective stone bracelet.” So, I am wondering if it would be better still to wear two bracelets or carry two crystals in my pockets one on each side (one on the left side to prevent absorbing negative energy and one on the right (projective) side to put out a repelling energy. What do you think about this.
Ann.
I think it’s unnecessary and unrealistic to have to buy two of every bracelet plus and have matching stones in each pocket for them to work. Crystals have their own projective and receptive energies and will work how they need to. Obsidian acts mostly fiery and outwardly defensive, regardless where it is on my body.
